PTY AFTER SCHOOL PROGRAMS

School Musical (Grades 5 – 12) Broadway dreams come true when young people participate in Periwinkle’s School Musical Program. Working with professional directors, musical directors and choreographers, students learn how to sing, dance, and act as they prepare to take their bows in an original musical production.

Classic Drama (Grades 5 – 12) Classic Drama exposes kids to the great works of the American theatre. Young actors receive in-depth acting training in order to effectively portray scenes and monologues from popular plays. Playwrights studied include Loraine Hansbury, Arthur Miller, and August Wilson.

Springboard Theatre (All Grades) Conflict! Resolution! Drama! Kids are playwrights and actors in Springboard Theatre where literature becomes a “springboard” to student playmaking activities. Using classic texts as their inspiration, students collaborate to write original plays that are relevant to their own lives. Then, the young actors rehearse their material and feel the thrill of performing for an audience.

The Shakespeare Experience (Grades 5 – 12) From the joyful heights of Juliet’s balcony to the tragic depth of Hamlet’s soul, young people bring the words of the immortal bard to vibrant life in The Shakespeare Experience. Students learn how to dramatically interpret Elizabethan text by finding the common themes between Shakespeare’s time and issues relevant to today’s youth.
